Devotional Guide for Thursday, August 8

Isaiah 47

Reflect
Ezra Taft Benson said, “The proud wish God would agree with them.  They are not interested in changing their opinions to agree with God’s.” Babylon was a very proud nation and believed they were above everyone, including God and were not interested in changing their ways to follow God. This pride led to their destruction. How interesting is it that we can look back at history and see what happened, but choose not to make changes. Our pride says, “I’m different, it won’t happen to me.” God asks us to surrender our life and future into His control, but how many times do we say no to surrender and yes to “I can do it better myself”?

Apply
Let’s not be like the Babylonians who relied on their own capabilities, and fully surrender our lives into God’s control.

Pray for International Student Ministries Canada – Gary Short, City Director
International Student Ministries Canada (ISMC) seeks to reach out with God’s love to those international students whom God has brought into our midst in Edmonton.  After serving as interim City Director for 2018, Gary Short became the permanent City Director for Edmonton in January 2019, and, along with his wife Kathy, his role is to co-ordinate the various areas of ISMC Edmonton with the help of many dedicated volunteers. This past year, we had the privilege of seeing a number of people become followers of Jesus and be baptized.
