Lamentations 3:37-58

Reflect
Sometimes when we make choices that lead us away from God, or even just when circumstances are difficult, it can be easy to think that God is distant from us, like He wouldn’t want to be anywhere near us. When we find ourselves in “the valley of the shadow of death” and think that we need to work our way back out to God, the truth of Psalm 23, and the truth that the people cling to in the passage in Lamentations is that God is not far off. In the Psalm, we read that we will “fear no evil, because You are with me”, and it’s written in the passage today that “You came near when I called you, and you said, “Do not fear.”” (v57). The truth is that it doesn’t matter how far we go from God, no matter how difficult our circumstances feel, when we call out to God, He is near, and we can trust that He hears our pleas.

Whatever it is that you face this day, how can you enter into it, knowing that God is with you, walking nearby?
