Matthew 5:21-26

Reflect
One thing I’ve learned repeatedly in my life is that the longer you put off something that’s hard, it just gets harder. And if you’re ever just waiting for perfect conditions before trying to start something hard, those perfect conditions will never come. At some point, you’re just going to need to take that first step and go for it.
One area this definitely applies to is in our relationships with each other. If something has been done that has caused hurt, or if there is some kind of disagreement and you know a difficult conversation needs to happen, often the longer it gets put off, the harder it ends up being (the caveat to this idea is that sometimes a little bit of space when emotions are high is a really good thing, but it can’t be left alone for too long).
In our passage today, Jesus tells us of the importance of settling disputes among us quickly. Reconciliation shouldn’t be put off, even for worship or offering. Is there a hard conversation that you’ve been putting off, waiting for just the right conditions? Is there anyone in your life that God is calling you to make steps towards reconciliation?
