Devotional Guide for Saturday, April 4

Matthew 24:36-51

Reflect
This passage talks about the second coming of Jesus and how no one knows when that will be. Jesus paints a picture of how sudden it will be. He compares it to the story of Noah and how the people were swept away by the flood as they “knew nothing about what would happen.” And it will be as swift as working beside someone one moment to look over and find they are gone the next moment. The theme that runs throughout these verses is that of being ready for the Lord’s return. What does that mean?  What does it look like to be ready?  In verse 45, the master gives the servant a task to do. On his return he calls the servant faithful and wise for he finds the servant to be doing what he asked.

What has God asked of us?  How can we be faithful to do what He asks in preparation for His return?  How can we love God and others well?  What does it look like to make disciples and care for the poor and meet the needs of the people around us? How do we hope He will find us when He returns?
