Psalm 137

Reflect

Perhaps you’ve had the occasion to listen to someone that has described the horrors they experienced as they lived through a war. Canada is a nation filled with people who have fled from other lands, often with painful memories. In my last church, I had brought together people to listen to how it had affected one another. The ravaging that occurred during the Central America wars (which many in our church came from), would be similar to what is now occurring in Cameroon, Yemen, Sudan and so many other regions. Of course, it would also be like what one of the Omas described happened to her, as she was raped 14 times by Russian soldiers in front of her own children. Today’s Psalm is a vent from one such victim of a horrific war, which inflicted pains I pray none of us will experience. The Oma I mentioned closed her sharing time with a plea for us to forgive others as she has forgiven the soldiers, because she herself had been forgiven.

Apply

Come to Jesus now and ask Him to reveal who you need to forgive to experience freedom. Who are you being called to listen to that has lived the horrors of conflict? Might you be a bridge to their rest in Jesus?
