Isaiah 48:12-22
Reflect
What strikes me in this passage is God’s call to listen to Him. Listening is so important. When I do premarital counselling with couples, one of the big things we talk about is active listening. This involves focusing in on what the other person is saying, waiting until they are done speaking before responding, and rephrasing to make sure we have heard correctly what was being said. I believe the most important active listening we engage in is when we listen to God’s voice. However, we know that we can sometimes not give our listening time to God top priority.

Spending time in God’s Word is the best way to listen to the voice of God. To actively listen to what He is saying, find a place where you can truly focus in on God’s Word. Wait patiently to hear what God is saying before forming your response. Rephrase and ask questions to make sure that you are hearing correctly (ask God directly, ask by looking into other passages of Scripture, ask people whose faith walk you respect). Listening to God is the most important listening you will ever do.
