Devotional Guide for Friday, January 15

Isaiah 53:1-12

Reflect

Today's passage is one that we typically look at in detail during Easter (and Lent). This is one of the most descriptive and specific Messianic prophecies in the Old Testament. It goes into great detail to describe the kind of Messiah that would come to rescue God's people Israel (and the rest of those who would follow Him) from sin. I know that I mentioned this in my devotional on Christmas morning, but I think today is an even greater reminder of this fact. We serve and believe in a God who has made a way for us to be in relationship with Him. This “way” came with a great cost (as we read about in detail in Isaiah 53). This cost is a reflection of the incredible love that we have in God. Remember, religion is about man trying to “do the right things” to get to God. The way of Jesus is about following a God who gives of Himself so He can “get to us”.
