Devotional Guide for Saturday, February 20

John 12:29-36

Reflect

Jesus was constantly doing the unexpected. The devoutly religious people of the day had a difficult time believing in Him because He didn’t do things the way they thought He would. He ate with sinners and tax collectors. He surrounded Himself with an interesting group of disciples. He taught about the Kingdom of God. They were expecting the Messiah to be strong and mighty, a King who would deliver them from their Roman oppressors. But God’s plan was much greater than that. “Now will the ruler of this world be cast out” (v31). In Christ’s death and resurrection, Satan was defeated! Jesus knew His time on earth was nearing an end and He urged the people listening to believe and walk in the light. Jesus is the light. Light reveals and illuminates. It defeats darkness and shows truth.

Apply

Take a moment to ask yourself, “What does it look like to walk in and orient myself to the light that is Christ? Who in my life needs to know about the truth that is revealed in Jesus?”
