Preparation for Sunday, July 18

Psalm 23

This morning we are looking at what is potentially the most recognized Psalm (and even passages overall) in the Bible. Psalm 23 is an amazing poem written by a shepherd (David) about how God is His shepherd. What is amazing about this Psalm is how relevant each line is to the journey that we are on today as followers of Christ. Thousands of years after this Psalm was written, we are still being shepherded by God. This morning, think about verse 1: “I shall not want.” Other translations of this verse say “I lack nothing.” Sheep know that their shepherd does all they need to provide and care for them; they truly do lack nothing. Do we truly believe that in our relationship with God we lack nothing? Christ is all-sufficient for us, and the same understanding of God that David held onto is one we can hold onto. Our Good Shepherd provides all we need, takes care of us, and leads us into what our souls truly desire. What difference does the sufficiency of Christ make in your life?
