2 Chronicles 16:1-14

Reflect

As we continue in our reading of 2 Chronicles, we once again read about a king who chose to do things his own way instead of relying on God. This is something that we who are reading the passage today can say, “Why would they do that? Can’t they see how silly this decision is and how badly it will turn out for them?”

Asa chose to fight the battle he was facing in his own wisdom and strength. Even though he had experienced God’s provision of protection and deliverance in the past, he decided to do this one on his own. And then when confronted with this mistake, he chose to become stubborn instead of confessing his mistake.

How different are we from Asa? Do we forget so quickly how the Lord has provided for us that we think we can do it better in our own strength?

“For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.” (v9). May we be people whose hearts are fully committed to Him.
