Devotional Guide for Tuesday, September 27

Acts 8: 26-40

Reflect

Reading the story of the Ethiopian eunuch and Philip catapulted me a few years back. I grew up in the Lutheran church, was baptized as a baby and confirmed as a 14 year old. I took my confirmation seriously, so the thought of baptism was not a question in my mind.

During Bible School, I was cooking at a summer camp on a ship in Holland. One day the captain said, “You are only sprinkled? Why not read the passages that involve baptism in the Bible?”
Soon I did as he challenged. I was deeply moved and when I read that Jesus, the Son of God, was baptized at the beginning of His ministry, I knew I wanted to follow his example!

“Therefore, we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life” Romans 6:4.
We identify with Christ in being baptised! What a privilege!

Sitting on deck of that ship, I had to say, “Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?” (v36)

Apply

Being obedient to Jesus’ leading isn't a sacrifice or a burden, rather a privilege God gives us to be a part of His family, His agenda, His kingdom. It’s an opportunity to be a witness for Him.  Make sure to thank God for it.
