Acts 13:6-12
Reflect
Happy Thanksgiving! On this day set aside to be mindful of all that we can be thankful for, we have a passage of Scripture that reminds us of the strength and power of God. Sergius Paulus was seeking, he wanted to hear more of the message that Paul and Barnabas were sharing. Standing in the way of the Roman official’s journey towards following Jesus was the magician Bar-Jesus, also called Elymas. Paul’s rebuke of Elymas identified the sorcerer’s plan to stop the Proconsul from following the Lord.

There are so many places in Scripture we are reminded of the power of God to overcome the forces of evil. We are encouraged to not live in fear of the enemy of our souls, but to acknowledge the power of God to conquer evil. 1 John 4:14 reminds us that the One who is in us is greater than the one who is in the world. For this truth we can be thankful.
