Devotional Guide for Tuesday, October 18

Acts 15:22-35

Reflect

In today’s passage, we can imagine the relief the Gentile believers experienced as they heard the gracious and affirming words of their apostles. While there are elements of the Law that are to be observed, they are not required to become ethnically Jewish (by way of circumcision) in order to be followers of Jesus.

How often has our faith strayed into legalism? Are there inappropriate “do’s and don’ts” that we have taken on as necessary for salvation? Part of our salvation in Jesus is the release from cultural burdens and the expectations of others that do not line up with the Word of God. Today, how can you walk in the gift of salvation that Jesus has given you?

For reflection, consider the following reminder from the song, “The Blood.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WvjEwlS4rY
It's never been about performance, perfection or striving for acceptance.
Let me tell you, it's only by the Blood.
It's never been about deserving or earning. It's a gift that's freely given.
Let me tell you, it's only by the Blood.
Does anybody want to be holy, righteous, purified and spotless?
Let me tell you, it's only by the Blood.
Does anybody want to be worthy, forgiven, justified, really living?
Let me tell you, it's only by the Blood.
