Preparation for Sunday, October 23

Revelation 2:12-17; Jeremiah 2:11-13

Last week we began an exploration of Jesus’ letter to the church in Pergamum.  Today Pastor Lyle will continue this message by focusing on the nature of some of the idols worshiped in this ancient city. We will see that the more things change, the more they really do stay the same. While we may not bow down to images of Zeus (associated with power), Athena (associated with wisdom), or Asclepius (associated with healing), these ancient gods represented entities that we still may pursue ahead of God or without acknowledging the One True God as their ultimate source. As God called the people of Pergamum to turn from worthless idols to find life in Him, He continues to invite us today to turn from our modern forms of these idols and drink from His wells of true life (Jer. 2:13).
