Devotional Guide for Tuesday, November 1

Acts 20:13-38

Reflect

Today we have an account of Paul’s final words to the elders of the church in Ephesus. In addition to warnings and exhortations, he describes his gospel-focused ministry among them. What words and themes do you observe in his address?

Here are a few I caught that describe his ministry: humility, passion, fearlessness, perseverance, hardworking, generous. It is clear that Paul is consumed by one thing: serving Jesus. And he learned to serve regardless of his circumstances. How would you describe your Christian walk? Is there one phrase or aspect in today’s passage that the Holy Spirit is inviting you to lean into and emulate?

Finally, the close of this chapter is a sweet reminder of the goodbyes we might share with a saint in our lives. They can be surprisingly raw and emotional, as we read here. The Holy Spirit binds us together deeply in the shared work of spreading the gospel. Are there “Pauls” in your life that you might give thanks to God for today?
