John 16:19-33
Reflect
Peace. What comes to mind when you think of the word peace? All I have to do is click on the news to hear stories of anything but peace; war, poverty, death, fear.
Jesus talks about peace in the passage we’ll focus on today, verse 33. For the last few chapters Jesus has been addressing His disciples. Verse 33 is one of the last things Jesus says to His disciples before He is arrested. What are these last words? “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Very soon the disciples are going to be facing some turbulent times. Jesus will be taken from them and crucified. And they won’t fully understand what’s happening until He returns. Right in the middle of the fear, confusion, and grief, Jesus offers them peace. The foundation for this peace? Jesus has overcome the world.
Jesus offers us peace as well. Right in the middle of whatever situation we are facing.
