Devotional Guide for Thursday, December 22

John 14:15-27

Reflect

As I read through the gospels, I often wonder what it must have been like for the disciples to have Jesus right there with them. How they must have been strengthened and encouraged by his presence in their lives.

What I find encouraging in today’s passage is that Jesus tells us we are not left alone. In fact, Jesus told the disciples that He wasn’t going to leave them alone even after He departed this earth. He was going to ask the Father to send the Spirit of truth to be with them.

This same Spirit of truth is with us today and offers us the truth of verse 27. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

As you enter these final days before Christmas, what would it look like to live with this peace that Jesus offers you?

Pray for Stephen Alksne – House of Prayer Edmonton

was raised here in Edmonton and was born again when I was around 15 years old. In my earlier days, I began attending House of Prayer Edmonton and immediately saw a profound growth in my personal prayer life. Through many life events, I felt strongly that the Lord was handing to me an invitation to be on staff at HoPE vocationally.
I have now been on staff at the House of Prayer Edmonton for the last 9 years, which has been one of the great honours of my life. We are a ministry that is focused on praying for the city for things like believers in the workplace, the lost, the homeless, families to thrive, etc. Also, as a local non-denominational ministry, we have a great heart for bringing the church together in unity, so we have done many events where we gather the various churches of Edmonton together for worship and prayer.
