Exodus 1:1-22
Reflect
Insecurity and jealousy can lead us to make some pretty wild decisions. This new king of Egypt was insecure and felt threatened by the growing numbers of the Israelites, and in an effort to keep a grip on his control, he implemented very harsh conditions for the Israelites, and even went so far as to ask the midwives to kill any Israelite boys that were being born. The king was so desperate to keep his power.
Now, we may not be rulers over whole nations, but we each have areas in our lives where we feel we have a sense of power or control over the situation. When that power or control gets threatened, how quick are we to start acting in ways or make decisions that don’t actually align with our values and who God is calling us to be? It’s so easy to let those things slide in an effort to maintain control.
