Psalm 127

Reflect

There is a segment of people who call themselves urban explorers. You can find them posting videos of their journeys through abandoned buildings (often done without permission). There are so many of these postings that show abandoned old (and surprisingly sometimes not so old) structures. I must admit I sometimes catch myself watching some of these. The bigger and more luxurious the building, the more interest they seem to generate. What is sad about many of these video surveys is that there is so much waste of finances for sure, but also waste of time and work that has been put into things that are left to rot.

Solomon reminds us today that unless God is involved in what we set our hand to, or any kind of effort, it is in vain. This doesn’t mean that we should refrain from projects, but it does remind us that we are to bring whatever plans we make before the Lord to seek His counsel on them. Solomon was the one tasked with building the temple, so he knew something about this kind of endeavour.
