Matthew 6:1-4
Reflect
Jesus paints a clear picture for us in this passage. He is saying “when” we give, not if we give, but when we give we need to do it in a way that does not draw attention to ourselves. The hypocrite is doing the “right” thing, but with the wrong motive.
I’ve always been struck by the phrase, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, and I like what one commentator had to say. The disciples were to have such pure motives of concern for the poor that when giving, they should have no self-awareness and no self-servingness at all.

As you read this passage again, ask the Lord to show you how pure your motives are when giving to the needy.

Pray for Pregnancy Care Centre
At the Pregnancy Care Centre (PCC), women and families will encounter unconditional love and receive accurate information on all their options. For as long as they need, clients of the PCC receive emotional, material, and/or spiritual support to help in areas where they may have felt hopeless. For those experiencing regret, grief, or other complicated emotions after abortion, we have the Abortion Recovery Centre (ARC). Whether the abortion experience took place in the last year or even decades ago, individuals can find hope and healing alongside peer supporters who themselves have walked through a healing journey after abortion.
Prayer requests:
For our clients, who are brave for reaching out for help.
For our staff and volunteers, that the love of God would permeate everything they do.
For our donors, that they would experience blessings even as they bless us.
For Canada’s political climate, that the work we do to serve the community would not be hindered.
