Devotional Guide for Thursday, April 25

1 Timothy 2:9-15

Reflect

As Paul continues his instruction on prayer, we read verses 8 and 9 that give instruction or direction on how men and women should approach prayer, and specifically, public prayer.

As one commentator points out, Paul, by his use of words and the sequence of the words, is dealing with expressions of morality in connection with religious practices of men and women. A person’s outward appearance should not conflict with their inner character.

Paul has a desire to reach those who don’t follow Jesus and is mindful of what might create a barrier to having a meaningful conversation with them. He puts aside his personal freedom for the benefit of the gospel.

Apply

As we reflect on our own lives, our outward expressions, our appearance, and behaviours, are we living consistent lives? Is what we present to the world around us consistent with our inner character?

Pray for Scott and Olga (Navigators, E. Asia)
Over the last few years, our church of single urban professionals has become a community of young married couples. We have started to see a few family members turn to Christ, and recently have regained access to a local university. Please join us in praying for greater openness to the gospel in our relational networks and on local college campuses. We will continue equipping our young believers to share the gospel and disciple others, and continue to train them as they take on more leadership of the church. Please pray for healthy, vibrant, God-honouring marriages in our community, for the gospel to spread extensively in our family and relational networks, for our young brothers and sisters to learn to disciple others, and for missions vision to grow in our church and churches across East Asia.
