Proverbs 13:13-25
Reflect
As we dive into this section of Proverbs today, we’ll focus in on verse 20 which says, “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” Who we surround ourselves with really matters. As a teenager, I had a number of different friend groups throughout Junior High and High School. I can look back and see how much they influenced me for good or harm. I became like the people I hung out with. My values and desires were influenced by the people I walked closely with.
This doesn’t mean that we are only friends with Christians. We are called to be salt and light to this world and a lot of that happens in the context of relationships. This verse is advising us to walk with the wise. To do life deeply with those who fear God. The people we walk through life the most closely with will influence us. And it would be wise to choose people who are wise; people who are wise according to God and His Word and not a wisdom of this world.
Take a minute to ask, “Who is influencing me?” What kind of people are you walking with now and are they influencing you to love Jesus more?
