Devotional Thought for Thursday, December 11

Isaiah 54:10: “Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you.”

“…though the mountains be shaken…hills be removed… yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant (more than just an agreement) of PEACE be removed…says the Lord who has compassion on you.”

God's message to Isaiah is still relevant to us today. We are living in a world where chaos, confusion, and uncertainty are hallmarks of our society.  World leaders are travelling the globe in an effort to negotiate agreements that will bring peace to troubled areas of the world. We should not be surprised that peace, as the world defines peace, is very elusive and transient.

Each Advent season we pause to celebrate God’s new and everlasting COVENANT of PEACE based on His love for us and brought to this troubled world through the birth of His only Begotten Son, Jesus (John 14:27).

God said it, let’s choose to believe it: God’s covenant of peace is fulfilled in the birth of Jesus, not in negotiated agreements between political leaders! In the face of very difficult world situations, let God’s love for us, as demonstrated in His covenant of peace, speak to our hearts and give us peace in the midst of our current circumstances. But listen, there is more; by faith we can anticipate an  everlasting peace that is still to come!
