Devotional Guide for Tuesday, October 15

Deuteronomy 8:10-20

Reflect
One evening this summer the power went out for a while due to a storm. You forget how dark it can be, and how much life has changed because of electricity. The “interruption” was a bit irritating.  How we take it for granted that power is available! This deeply convicting passage speaks to our forgetfulness by reminding us where the source of our provision and satisfaction comes from. When we lose that perspective, we dishonour our loving God. We mis-step when we think we’re the kings of our conditions, and that attitude has hard consequences. The remedy? Praise, remembering and following.

Apply
Take a few moments today to counter forgetfulness by writing down how the Lord has provided for you and satisfied your needs. Are there any areas where arrogance about what “you’ve accomplished” has crept in that needs to be confessed?
