Reflect
Have you ever had to go and tell someone some news that you knew they weren’t going to want to hear? It can be tempting to beat around the bush or try to manipulate the thing you have to say so that they’ll receive the news more favourably. In this story today the messenger basically says to Micaiah, “Just tell the king what he wants to hear”, and Micaiah has a choice to make. Will he do what is easy and go along with what the other prophets are saying to the king, or will he be truthful about what he is hearing from the Lord, even though it’s bad news for the king? Micaiah is sure of his convictions and tells the king the bad news and it gets him sent to prison. He chooses to keep his integrity, at quite a cost to himself.
It can be easy for us to shy away from the truth and try to protect our own reputations and relationships with the people around us. But what would it look like for us to boldly stand in our convictions about the truth?

In what ways are you tempted to shy away from speaking the truth in order to avoid hard conversations?
