Devotional Guide for Monday, September 5

Acts 1:1-11

Reflect

I’m in a season of “waiting”. As I was preparing, life was busy and when I took time to figure things out, God had gone ahead and prepared everything. It took little time for things to fall into place. Waiting allows for the preparation and provision that is needed. A couple of setbacks, and I thought maybe this wasn’t what God wanted. So, in my own strength, I took over and tried other things. In the waiting, we need to resist impulsiveness and impatience to take matters into our hands.

In verse 4, Jesus is telling them to go to Jerusalem and wait for the gift the Father promised. The Jews believed that the Messiah would be an earthly conqueror who would free Israel from Rome and this is what they would be waiting for. But the kingdom Jesus spoke about is a spiritual kingdom established in the hearts and lives of believers. God’s presence and power dwell in believers in the person of the Holy Spirit.

Waiting is hard. I’ve found that God doesn’t let you know very far in advance. Therefore, worrying about it does not help! The same God who created life in you can be trusted with the details of your life (Matt 6:25).
