Devotional Guide for Thursday, October 13

Acts 14:1-7

Reflect

As we continue to read about Paul and Barnabas’ travels, we see they once again speak boldly and effectively, resulting in many Jews and Gentiles believing in the Gospel.

What I appreciate about today’s passage is that the story doesn’t end here. We read about the opposition Paul and Barnabas face, which is something we can all relate to in our own stories of trying to share the Gospel.

What I also appreciate is how Paul and Barnabas didn’t quit at the first sign of pushback. “So, Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord...” (v3). They continued to speak truth and allow God to work in lives of the people they were working with. Some believed, some were opposed, but it wasn’t until their very lives were threatened did they give up and move on. What a great example of perseverance in the face of opposition. May we, like Paul and Barnabas, speak boldly and effectively to the world around us.

Pray for Chain of Love – NAB Brazil

Chain of Love Homes is a ministry founded by in 1993 to look after children in jeopardy and to provide them a better life centred on Christ’s love. We have built eight houses on a campus in Southern Brazil. We also manage four off-campus homes. Each home has up to ten children who are cared for by a committed married Christian couple. COL is now under Brazilian leadership. In every house we aim to create an environment as close as possible to the routine of a Christian family. We aim to pass on Christian values to our children. Every child who comes to us is sent by judges. They stay with us until their parents regain the ability to safely have them back. Sometimes this doesn’t happen, and the children can stay in our Transition Home as long as they study or work, attend a church, and save part of their income. We have worship services on our campus.
