Acts 17:16-34
Reflect
Driving through downtown Edmonton is to me quite a sobering event. But even all over the city there are sirens of police cars, shopping carts left in odd places, needles in playgrounds, cannabis smell and horrifying pictures to advertise something. A broken and hurting city!
A lot is the same as what Paul saw in Athens. Idols everywhere, Paul was deeply grieved and angered about the spiritual lostness. But Paul used his internal turmoil for positive action; he looked for opportunities to share Jesus.
Paul started with examples the philosophical Athenians understood! He found a common ground to share Jesus. His coming, resurrection and judgment to come. Paul never changed the message to his listeners, just his approach!
Apply
Like Paul, we are called to be a beacon of light in Edmonton. Even if it looks like no one cares, start sharing! Do you feel inadequate? Start by praying for open eyes and courage and start sharing! Exercise your spiritual muscle! The more you share the more you know how to approach different people.
Get into the Bible and know the Word of God better! Do you have questions? Research it, talk to others and discuss passages you struggle with. Worried about the outcome? God has you covered! Paul was mocked and questioned (v32). Verse 34 says, “But some men joined him and believed” You sow, God gives the growth!
