Devotional Guide for Wednesday, November 16

Acts 27:1-26

Reflect

Our Scripture passage today finds Paul in the middle of a storm, a storm that lasted for many days. We are told that when they could not see the sun or the stars for many days, they gave up hope of being saved. But right in the middle of that storm, God sent an angel to Paul to tell him not to be afraid. Paul must stand trial before Caesar so his life and all those with him will be saved.

What stands out to me is that an angel came to tell Paul not to be afraid. Even Paul needed to hear this! In the middle of the raging storm maybe Paul knew what it felt like to have moments when the darkness felt larger than the light. Moments when doubt crept in and the storm seemed larger than God.

Paul was serving God wholeheartedly and we can see from Scripture that his life was not easy. But in this story, we see God’s watchful eye and active care for Paul not only as He saves him, but also as He reassures him.
