Devotional Guide for Monday, December 5

Isaiah 7:10-16

Reflect

Twice God tells Ahaz (v11), “Ask the Lord your God for a sign, whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.” Ahaz quotes back Scripture about the folly of testing God. He had his own agenda and did not want to submit to the control of God. Perhaps he feared finding out that the Lord would stand by His word. What lie did Ahaz believe about God? Could it be something like “God won’t come through for me. I need to do it my way.”

The response is in verse 14. “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign; The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel - God with us.”

Immanuel came to be with us, in our plans, in our work, in our sorrow, everywhere. Jesus came to earth in human form and experienced everything we experience, so He knows and understands.
Are there lies about God that you are believing?

Apply

This week we are focusing on hope. What promises do you need renewed hope in? If you are believing a lie, repent and renounce it. We celebrate Christmas because Immanuel came to us - for you because He loves you so much.
