Devotional Guide for Thursday, December 8

Luke 1:5-25

Reflect

I wonder how many of us identify with Zechariah. Here is someone who believes in God and is faithfully following God. Yet there is this dream, this hope, that is unfulfilled in his life. He and Elizabeth do not have any children.

I imagine Zechariah continues to believe God is hearing his prayers, and I imagine he is still holding out hope that an answer to these prayers will happen soon. Yet when Gabriel tells him the Lord has heard his prayers and is going to answer them, Zechariah has a moment of doubt. Can it really be true?

Apply

Today as you think about your own hopes, and the prayers you have been offering before the Lord, take comfort in knowing the Lord DOES hear your prayers. It is my prayer you will cling to the truth that God loves you and you can wait patiently upon Him.
