Micah 5:1-5a
Reflect
Have you ever put a puzzle together? Often some good conversations happen while putting together a puzzle. However, when we are sitting or standing around that unfinished puzzle we may be chatting, but our eyes are scanning looking for the right piece to fit in each spot. It is only when the last piece is placed that we can be at peace from the task of completing the puzzle. It is then that the fullness of the picture is realized. In the Old Testament the word for peace is shalom, which is the word that is also used to refer to completeness. Completing a wall or a temple in the Old Testament was to come to a place of shalom.
There are many places in Scripture where the coming Messiah is prophesied to be our Shalom, such as in Micah 5. In the New Testament, Jesus tells us He gives us peace. Paul, in Ephesians also says He is our peace. The Bible Project in their advent video on peace says, “Becoming people of peace means participating in the life of Jesus, who reconciled all things in heaven on earth, restoring peace through His death and resurrection.” Jesus completes the picture of what peace is for our world. How are you bringing His shalom to a world looking for peace?
