Devotional Guide for Tuesday, December 20

Isaiah 11:1-9

Reflect
At a recent conference, the Children’s Ministry had invited someone with pet snakes. The children could hold and pass around one of the snakes.  Jerilyn and I had no longing to have a snake in our hands, having lived in countries where snakes were trouble!

Isaiah mentions snakes, lion, bear etc. dwelling with lamb, cow and even children. My first thought is, “Well, these prophesies have not come true yet! It talks of a world to come and expresses in my understanding a picture of perfect PEACE.”

I read verse 9b: “For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” I realize this peace comes into our lives if we get to know the LORD!

I remember when I committed my life to Jesus, a deep peace flooded me. A friend said what stood out to her when she first met me was the peace that I had in every situation. She wanted to have that peace and we started reading the Bible together.

Apply
Knowing the LORD leads to changed perspective:
I can live together in harmony with people that are different from me.
I can dive into His word to get to know Him more!
I can contribute to others getting to know the LORD and in so doing spread the peace that passes understanding (Phil. 4:7)
