Matthew 2:13-23

Reflect

It amazes me that God would call Joseph and his family to move to Egypt, a country that was the archenemy to Israel at the time. Imagine Joseph and the look on his face. It must’ve been absolutely terrifying to move to enemy territory while Herod was planning to murder children in fear of the birthed Messiah. Yet, there was every reason to trust and obey God.

Relocating to Egypt was the fulfillment of prophecy (Hosea 11:1). This is just one of many messianic prophecies from the Old Testament that was fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Without question, it was the Father’s protection that further proved Him to be the promised King, Ruler and Saviour of all people and nations. There is no enemy, obstacle, or plan that can thwart God’s plan; namely, this applies to God’s ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ and all the promises made available to Israel.

Apply

If God’s fulfillment was ultimately Jesus, which was established truthfully and historically, what areas of your life require you to place a greater trust in the lesser promises (strength, rest, answered prayer in His way and time, etc.) that are made available to you?
In what ways can you deepen your faith during life’s circumstances?
