Devotional Guide for Thursday, April 20

Genesis 3:1-7

Reflect

What strikes me in this passage every time I read it is how subtle the serpent is. The simple phrase “Did God really say…?” sets everything in motion. I imagine Eve upon hearing that question, stopping and reflecting on what God really did say. The seed of doubt has been successfully planted.
The question the serpent asked Eve is one I believe we continue to be asked today: “Did God really say…?”

What do you do when you find yourself confronted with this question? Do you rely on your memory? Do you ask people who you trust, who you know will tell you the truth and who also walk with Jesus if that is what God said? Do you search out Scripture to find out if it is true? May we continue to be people who search out the truth of who God is and what God says to us.

Missionary of the Week – Scott & Olga (East Asia)

Jesus said that the need of the hour is not for more converts, but for more workers to labour in his harvest fields. These workers must be mature and trustworthy people who can disciple the next generation. We are praying and striving to build this kind of vibrant, multiplying community in a large urban center in East Asia. Over the last few years, our church of single urban professionals has become a community of young married couples. We have started to see a few family members turn to Christ, and recently have regained access to local university campuses Please join us in praying for greater openness to the gospel in our relational networks and on local college campuses. Please pray for healthy, vibrant, God-honouring marriages in our community and for the gospel to spread extensively in our family and relational networks.
