Genesis 17:1-27

Reflect

One of the themes in the Old Testament that I so appreciate is how God initiates the relationship and makes it very clear what being in relationship with Him means. God clearly explains the benefits of being in relationship with Him, but He also clearly says what will happen if we choose not to be in relationship with God. This is not a new theme for God, to be true to His word.

God gave Abram a choice. God said He was establishing/renewing the covenant He had with Abram. All Abram had to do was to be obedient to what God asked of him.

Verse 23, like 12:4, demonstrates Abraham’s prompt obedience.

What challenges me in this passage is the question of how prompt am I in being obedient to God. How quick am I to obey the big things but also the little things? Am I wholeheartedly pursuing the relationship God is offering? Are you?
