Genesis 26:34-27:41

Reflect

God is intimately involved in the story of Genesis. The sovereign LORD Almighty, while Rebekah is pregnant with twins, determines the life of Jacob (Genesis 25:23). Jacob’s call from God to be the kind of guy that he is, is a tremendous inconvenience for us. Everything would be a lot easier if we could settle on Esau marrying unwisely, and Jacob being a scandalous rascal, rather than a guy that is completely fulfilling the call of God in his life.

When we think that God blesses, we naively think that the well-being of the person will be pleasant. We cannot conclude that God is predictable or that His blessing will always result in a “happily ever after” story with a cute bow on it. God is completely at work in the life of Jacob, and this is at least the second time that Jacob fulfilling his calling causes us to not like him very much.

Genesis is not the book you want to go to if you are looking for a lesson on morality. It is definitely the book to go to if you are willing to be in awe of the way of God, rather than to superficially explain God in a manner that allows us to squeeze Him into our safe and comfortable box.

What is distracting you from embracing the call of God on your life? What is an indication that you long to be where He knows best?
