Genesis 27:42-28:9

Reflect

Today we read another part of the Jacob and Esau drama: the fallout of Jacob receiving Esau’s blessing.

It is hard for us to imagine what the “blessing” for the firstborn meant to them, but it must have been very important for Rebecca to scheme to have Jacob get it instead of Esau.

As I read this passage, the question of contentment kept coming to mind. Would Jacob have been content with the blessing he would have received as the second born and the life he would have experienced? Could Rebecca accept the order of things and be content with how it would play out for her sons?

We might not fight over the firstborn blessing today, but are we able to be content with whatever the Lord is providing for us? Can we be content to live our lives fully in step with God and trust that He will take care of us?

Missionary of the Week – Daniela Pilz (Athletes in Action)

Daniela is working with the student-athlete ministry from Power To Change, called Athletes in Action. She’s been serving with them for the past four years in Edmonton. This year she is stepping into new territory as she started a Chapel with the King’s University Women’s soccer team. Her other roles are mentoring athletes at the University of Alberta, MacEwan University, and soon at the King’s University, to help them grow as believers, to help those who are exploring faith and what it means to trust and live with Jesus in their hearts and lives. Her passion is to walk alongside female athletes, read the Bible with them, and encourage them emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Pray for her (as she has to meet a great need) to set healthy boundaries between work and life, to trust and surrender in God’s goodness, and the help and comfort of the Holy Spirit.
