Preparation for Sunday, June 25

1 Samuel 22:1-5

This morning Pastor Lyle will continue a summer sermon series looking at the life of David. We’ve subtitled the series, “An Authentic Walk with God,” noting how the Bible provides a very realistic picture of David’s life, including the good, the bad and the ugly chapters. Today we come to a story that finds David at a very low point in his existence. Though anointed as next king over Israel, he finds himself running for his life from King Saul. His decision to flee to enemy territory did not go well and he faked insanity for fear of being killed. Now he has escaped to a cave and we meet him here in 1 Samuel 22, very much alone and, from a human perspective, very vulnerable. Yet it is here, at the cave of Adullam, we see God meet David in some very tangible ways, providing community, strength and direction.
