Exodus 2:1-10
Reflect
Water is significant in the life of Moses. Moses gets his name from this first water experience. Other significant water encounters include plagues that involve water, there is a significant water crossing and a significant crossing he was not allowed to have, a water well encounter with a woman who would become his wife, and water flowing from rocks.
Here we see Moses’ first water experience being that of deliverance from an unthinkable act, that of throwing all the Hebrew baby boys into the Nile to drown. Moses is saved from the death sentence by the ingenuity and quick thinking of his mother and sister, and by the compassion of the daughter of the man who issued the very death sentence.
God can take situations that seem so hopeless and turn them into opportunities for good. It is through the terrible circumstances of the time of Moses’ birth that he is raised up with all the necessary experiences and skills to deliver the Israelites from their captivity. Are there situations today that you might wonder how anything good can come of where you find yourself? Where might God provide a way for His name to be glorified in your life.
