1 Samuel 30:1-26
This morning as Pastor Lyle continues a summer sermon series looking at the life of David, we come to a very difficult event in David’s story. While he and his men were away from their hometown of Ziklag, a group of enemies called the Amalekites raided the city, took their women and children captive, plundered their goods and burned what was left. David’s men blamed David and wanted to stone him. His response…“David found strength in the Lord His God.” (v6) As the story continues, David and his men, in God’s providence, were able to chase down the Amalekites and regain all they had lost. While some of David’s men were too exhausted to participate in this recapture, David insisted all would get to share in what was regained. His reason, their good fortune was a result of…“what the Lord has given us. He protected us and delivered into our hands the raiding party.” (v23) In both the depth of despair and the height of celebration, David maintained a godly perspective.
