Exodus 18
Reflect
Many times I’ve been overwhelmed with things on my 'to do' list. And there are times when I take things on that God hasn’t asked me to. I felt like I had to or I was the only one who could do it. Letting go of control is hard. I have found self talk and asking God, “Is this something I need to take on?” This has really helped me get some balance in my life.
Moses sat judging the people from morning until evening. Maybe he felt he was the only who could do it. Jethro advised Moses this wasn't sustainable and for Moses to continue to intercede with God for the people, instruct them and decide the difficult cases. All the other cases were to delegate to assistant judges whom Moses would appoint.
My self talk and reasoning matters out, helps me to continually look to God. I also have godly friends and family in my life that I can inquire. And sometimes a stranger. God works in so many ways…maybe because He knows we are sheep and He uses lots of ways to get our attention.
Do you have a Jethro in your life that you can inquire of when you need to? If not, our pastors are always willing to help if asked.
