Preparation for Sunday, August 6

This morning, Pastor Nathanael will continue a summer sermon series looking at the life of David. We’ve subtitled the series, “An Authentic Walk with God,” noting how the Bible provides a very realistic picture of David’s life, including the good, the bad and the ugly chapters.

We have several chapters as we look across 1 Samuel 31 to 2 Samuel 6. In summary, Saul’s bitter end is the beginning of David’s jubilant reign. Though David is not without sin, we notice God’s favour and blessing in the beginning chapters of 2 Samuel as God’s anointed and chosen king. Today, we’ll discover how God opposes the proud, and exalts those who are humble. As we take on the posture of humility, we begin to recognize that God’s promises are sure, even though the timing is His own and the path He takes us on may be surprising or difficult.

Apply
1. Up until this point, how does the life of Saul contrast with the life of David?
a. In what ways does Saul’s tragic end bring revelation to areas in your own heart that need to be dealt with?
2. David ascending to the throne is a classic example of God keeping his word. How is God inviting you to trust in His purposes, plans, and promises for your life?
