Devotional Guide for Saturday, August 19

Psalm 126

Reflect

What I love about this Psalm is that it reminds us that whatever it is we’re facing today doesn’t have to be the end of the story. God showed His faithfulness when He “restored the fortunes of Zion” and we know through the rest of the story of Scripture that because of what Jesus did on the cross for us, we can be confident in our eternity.

So the struggles and challenges that we face today (not to say that they aren’t significant or important), don’t get to be the end of the story. The promise in this Psalm is that “Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.” And “Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy” reminds us of the promise in Revelation that “There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Apply

Whatever it is that you’re facing today, may you see the hope of the future, that this isn’t the end of the story God is writing in your life.
