Galatians 4:13-20
Reflect
What stands out to you in today’s reading? Is there a word or an entire phrase? Write it down.
Paul changes his tone in this passage and pleads as a mother would with her beloved child. Moms have an ability to observe in their children (often before the children are ready to admit anything) a shift in their thinking, their posture, and their actions. Moms notice when the spark of joy is missing from a child’s eye. Moms see when a child’s priorities change, and they no longer reflect the values they were taught. And a mom’s heart breaks in pain when their child is going in the wrong direction.
Paul is zealous for the Galatians to stick with the gospel he taught them. He deeply longs to see “Christ formed in you.” If Paul were writing this letter to you, what might he say he is longing to see in you? In 2 Corinthians 3:16-18 we read, “But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory…”

Is there something the Lord would like you to be obedient in, that Christ may be increasingly formed in you?
