Galatians 5:5-8

Reflect

When we talk about the Christian faith, a metaphor that is often used is that of a journey or a walk with God. We have been justified by faith, through the work of Christ on the cross. And now “through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope” (v5). As we continue our journey and walk with God, we become more and more like Jesus.

What strikes me most about this verse is the word AWAIT. Becoming more like Jesus isn’t about striving or earning. It isn’t tied to obedience of Mosaic law (particularly circumcision, as some in the Galatian church thought). As we walk in the Spirit and yield to the Spirt by faith, He is the one who grows us into Christlikeness.
I read a quote recently that said, “the same power that brought justification to believers is the power that is at work in us to help us grow in Christ and become more like Him.”

Take a moment to look back at this year and see the ways God has grown you to be more like Christ.
