Ephesians 1:1-6

Reflect

What a way to start a letter! Paul begins writing to the church in Ephesus with a reminder of the amazing gifts God has given each of us through His Son Jesus. That by His love, we have the opportunity to be adopted into the family of God as sons and daughters, and with that comes every blessing that is afforded to those that are a part of the family. We are no longer strangers or outsiders. By the grace of God, which He freely gives us through Jesus, we get to be a part of the family. What a gift!

When you think about your relationship with God, what words would you use to describe it? Would you use words like, “son”, “daughter”, “family”, or “adopted”? It can sometimes be hard to use such intimate language. Maybe some of us lean more towards using words like “servant”, “striving”, “onlooker”, or “earning”. It can be hard to accept something that we haven’t had to work for or earn, but by God’s grace through Jesus, God calls you “son” and He calls you “daughter”. My prayer is that we can live that out today.
