Preparation for Sunday, October 1

This morning Pastor Mike will be continuing our series on the book of Galatians. We’ve subtitled the series, “Dwelling in Freedom” as Paul convincingly explains that our freedom comes from faith in Christ.

Following a confrontation with Peter on some of the ways he was slipping back into a legalistic view of what was acceptable behaviour and what was not, Paul addresses the deeper question of what it is that makes us acceptable to God. We understand from Scripture that God cannot stand sin, and yet He pursues a relationship with us knowing full well we are sinners (see Romans 3:23)! Paul clarifies that he is not rebuilding a system of practice that requires obedience to the law for salvation. Paul’s experience with obeying the law only pointed out his separation from God. Paul declares that it is through Jesus and Jesus alone that it is possible to have a right relationship with God. Faith in the crucified Christ calls us to die to our old ways and take up a new life that Jesus offers us, freely.
