Ephesians 1:7-10
Reflect
These verses tell us of 5 blessings that we receive when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour.
(1) Redemption means setting free and restoring. Redemption was the price paid to gain freedom for a slave (Lev. 25:47-54). Through His death, Jesus paid the price to release us from slavery.
(2) Forgiveness was granted in the Old Testament on the basis of the shedding of animals’ blood (Lev. 17:11). Now we are forgiven on the basis of Jesus’ shed blood - He died the perfect and final sacrifice.
(3) Grace is God’s voluntary and loving favour given to those He saves. We can’t earn salvation, nor do we deserve it. No religious, intellectual or moral effort can gain it, because it comes only from God’s mercy and love. Without God’s grace, no person can be saved.
(4) God has made known to us the mystery of His will in all wisdom and understanding. He gives us what we need to understand Him and His will and to live life according to that will.
(5) Christ is our Redeemer. We belong to Him. This is the most incredible blessing we have.
