Devotional Guide for Wednesday, October 4

Ephesians 1:15-23

Reflect

The last few daily devotionals written by your pastoral team have walked through some of the most theologically complex verses of the Bible. A study of doctrine ought to lead us to doxology (praise to God). We do not read God’s Word to become better debaters; rather, we interact with the Truth so that we become more passionate worshippers.

I have not found another chapter of the Bible that brings together more closely the reality of the sovereignty of God, along with the urgency we should have to pray. The prayer that we read today reveals God’s heart (spoken through Paul) for His followers to desire the beauty of being fully alive.

Paul is not satisfied that his readers have desire or knowledge about the power of God (v19). He longs for them to experience the power of God. Dwelling in the freedom of being fully alive in God empowers us to never give up hope. The degree of hopelessness I have for others comes from never realizing that God has done anything for me.

How is your own personal experience such a wonderful realization of God’s power and might that you can never have a sense of hopelessness for anyone else you see?

Prayerfully ask who it is that needs to receive God’s grace and hope poured through you.
